How did Spice Girls Inspire One of the Most Successful Singers in the World?
Victoria Beckham recently revealed that Beyoncé was influenced by the iconic group Spice Girls.
One of the biggest groups in the music industry, the Spice Girls opened many doors and inspired other singers who came after them—including Beyoncé.
In a recent interview on Entertainment Tonight's "Breaking Beauty" podcast, former member of the band, Victoria Beckham talked with presenters Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins about how Beyoncé had told a few years earlier how much the group had affected the direction of her career.
“I met Beyoncé a few years ago, and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls that inspired me and made me want to do what I do and made me proud to be a girl and proud to be who I am,’” admitted Posh Spice. “When someone like Beyoncé, who is so iconic and was such a strong woman, says that she was inspired by the Spice Girls, I think that’s quite something.”
Clearly, the inspiration was worth it: Destiny's Child became one of the most successful female groups of all time, and Beyoncé herself has just made history as the most awarded woman in Grammy history.
Beckham was a member of the Spice Girls, but refused to join her bandmates for a reunion tour in 2019, stating that she simply moved into a new era in her career and personal life.
