Here's How Much Kanye West Spent on His Presidential Campaign
Last year, Kanye West, much to many people’s chagrin, launched an official bid for President of the United States. The rapper and avid supporter of Donald Trump promised, is elected president, to uphold his Christian beliefs and reform the criminal justice system, something for which his wife Kim Kardashian has been a vocal advocate. A latecomer to the race, West joined as a member of the Birthday Party. Now, a financial report from the Federal Election Commission reports thats musician’s campaign was primarily self-funded, earning two million dollars in donations with $12.5 million coming from his own bank account.
Comparatively, supporters donated over a billion dollars to President Biden’s campaign, while Trump’s team racked in more than $811 million. Due to West’s late induction into the race, he was only able to join the ballot in 12 states. On Election Day, the Yeezy founder did receive over 66,000 votes.
Recently, West has been embroiled in an increasingly publicized divorce with his wife of seven years. While the news broke in January, papers were officially filed last week as the couple began negotiations to split property and custody of their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
According to sources, one of the final straws for Kardashian was her husband's decision to run for president. Though she supported him to the cameras and on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, insiders say she was fed up. Notably, the rapper spoke at his campaign kick-off rally and cried on stage when he revealed that he didn't want to have their first daughter, North. He said, "I almost killed my daughter. … Even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world." West has a history of mental health struggles, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
A source close to the KKW Beauty founder told Page Six, "[Kim] is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile, Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy shit, and she’s just had enough of it.”
