Chappell Roan On Her New Album: 'There Isn’t Much Of An Agenda'
Following her smash-hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” the singer plans to release new music soon.
Following her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” and her appearance at Coachella this year, Chappell Roan shows no signs of taking a break as she is set to release new music, specifically a brand new album. Roan's record producer Dan Nigro teased the upcoming album during the ASCAP Pop Awards on May 8, saying, “I’m feeling good about it, but at the same time, we are literally right at the beginning of the recording process; it’s only been a few days.”
After Nigro confirmed the duo had begun recording the album, he commented on what it's like to collaborate with Roan. "When I have Chappell in the studio, it’s always good fun—she’s amazing. We’re doing a lot of sitting around and talking at this point, and there are moments where she becomes the Chappell you see on stage, but then there are moments where it comes down. We’re writing ballads, some sad songs where it's just the piano and her voice.”
“There isn’t much on the agenda with this next album,” Roan said at the ASCAP Pop Awards. “I plan to do what I have always done: write songs that I love, create music I’m proud of, and share that with the world. Maybe I should have more of an answer to what my expectations are [with the album], but at this point, I just don’t know.”
This new album comes on the heels of her single “Good Luck, Babe!” which reached number 77 on the Hot 100 list back on April 20. The song amassed over six million streams and is currently trending on TikTok with nearly 10,000 posts under the song's sound. Prior to the single, she released her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which Roan reportedly spent a decade making. “I rose from the ashes of losing all my money, moving back in with my parents, and working the drive-through—this beautiful project came to life from the deep pits of hell,” said Roan, as per Variety.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess featured records like “My Kink Is Karma,” “Femininomenon,” “Casual,” “Kaleidoscope,” “Red Wine Supernova,” and “Hot to Go!” making for a mix of emotionally charged ballads and upbeat pop tunes. With the breath of fresh air her first album infused into the music industry, there's no doubt that Roan's next album will be highly anticipated. As Roan said at her electric Coachella performance, she may just serve exactly what we are, "cunt."
