See Dior Men Fall 2020 as Captured by Adam Bartoshesky at Art Basel Miami Beach

Art Basel Miami Beach 2019 is the place to be this week, attracting a range of visitors from the fashion, art, and culture worlds to celebrate creative innovation, collaboration, and—let's be honest—an escape from the December chill that's taken over many other major cities. Before the art fair officially began, Kim Jones kicked off the festivities by staging his Dior Men Fall 2020 show at the new Rubell Museum on Tuesday night, attracting the likes of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and Luka Sabbat, as well as Adam Bartoshesky, who captured the moment exclusively for L'Officiel USA and proved why Miami Art Week has become such an exciting time in the fashion and culture spheres.

You may know Bartoshesky by his Instagram alias, @captainbarto. The photographer and surfer's feed is chock-full of exotic locales, so it's no wonder he headed down to Miami for the Dior Men’s show, which he captured on his handy Polaroid and 35mm cameras. After popping backstage to watch the show preparations unfold with creative and image director of Dior Makeup Peter Philips and Kristen Noel Crawley, Bartoshesky snapped the gorgeous vintage cars that were rolling up to the show venue with celebrities like Maluma in tow.

It was quite the epic night—complete with an Orville Peck performance and fireworks—not to mention the collaboration pieces that walked down Jones’ runway. “It was special to see an icon within surf/skate culture like Shawn Stussy collaborate with a high fashion brand like Dior,” Bartoshesky raved. Thanks for shooting for L’Officiel! Who did you most love seeing today at the Dior men’s show?

Thank you for having me! I don’t get very starstruck, but there was a moment during the show where I was looking down the runway and saw Kate Moss and David Beckham sitting next to each other front row and I was pretty bewildered. Two icons right there.

What did you think of the collection and collaboration with Shawn Stussy? Did you ever wear Stussy growing up?

Absolutely amazing. Every detail of how the show was organized and presented, down to the actual pieces of the collection, was so well done. It was special to see an icon within surf/skate culture like Shawn Stussy collaborate with a high fashion brand like Dior. I have been surfing my whole life and it has been the most influential aspect of my life. It was cool to see a culture that I love be fused into the collection. I think it was my favorite collection I have ever seen from a fashion house.

We love your Polaroids and that you have an Instagram devoted to your film shots. Why do you think analog photography is rising in popularity on Instagram?

I think that since everything is digital and instantaneous in the modern world, people really enjoy the simplicity and feeling created when you use a point-and-shoot film camera. You can focus more on living in the moment, with a couple of quick snaps here or there, and you receive your images back days, weeks, or months later instead of right away. I call my day-to-day film pictures forgotten frames because I literally forget the pictures I take and then I get them developed and it’s a whole new surprise. I love the feeling. I’m a super nostalgic person.
