Zendaya is adding an iconic TV character to her already stacked filmography. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Euphoria star will voice Lola Bunny in the new film Space Jam: A New Legacy. The cartoon rabbit is known as the girlfriend of Bugs Bunny in the Looney Tunes series.

While Lola is often portrayed with an overtly sexy demeanor, the film's director Malcolm D. Lee brings the Malcolm & Marie actress in as a part of his mission to show a "fully-realized" version of the character. "Lola was not politically correct," Lee told the outlet of the character's visualization in the original 1996 film. "This is a kids' movie, why is she in a crop top? It just felt unnecessary, but at the same time there's a long history of that in cartoons."

According to Lee, audiences will see a reintroduction to the legacy character as a way to "reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters." He explained, "We reworked a lot of things, not only her look, like making sure she had an appropriate length on her shorts and was feminine without being objectified, but gave her a real voice." And that voice just so happens to now belong to one of the most beloved actresses of this generation.

The director continued, "For us, it was, let's ground her athletic prowess, her leadership skills, and make her as full a character as the others."

The original Space Jam tells the fictional story of basketball legend Michael Jordan's time spent in retirement. The film follows Jordan as he helps Bugs, Lola, and the other Looney Tunes characters in a basketball game to avoid becoming attractions at the Moron Mountain amusement park.

Set 25 years later, this upcoming sequel follows Lebron James as he and his son are sucked into a virtual reality where the only way out is by joining forces with the Looney Tunes team in an on-court battle against the Goon Squad. Other basketball stars including Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, and Kyle Kuzma will appear in cameo roles.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is scheduled to premiere July 16 in theaters and on HBO Max.
