As one of the highest-grossing actors of all time, Matt Damon has had quite the career. The actor, screenwriter, and movie producer first came into the spotlight in the 1988 film Mystic Pizza where he played the role of Steamer. Though his character was minor, his performance was memorable and launched the beginning of a remarkable career. The actor began to become a little more noticeable in the industry after playing the role of Andrew Ilario in the film Courage Under Fire, where he was able to act in a scene alongside Denzel Washington and received great reviews from critics who marked his performance as “impressive.”
Damon’s major breakthrough came in 1997 when he co-wrote the screenplay Good Will Hunting with his longtime friend Ben Affleck. The movie was nominated for nine Academy Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four Golden Globes. Of those, the film won two Academy Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, and one Golden Globe. Since then, he only continued to thrive and established himself as an A-list actor.
Some of his standout films include The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ocean’s 11, The Bourne Identity, Ocean’s 12, The Departed, The Informant, Ocean’s 13, and The Martian. Damon is still very involved in the acting world. He is confirmed to play the role of Leslie Groves in the upcoming 2023 film Oppenheimer, a movie directed by Christopher Nolan that tells the story of the team of scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project. Damon will be starring alongside Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and Jack Quaid.
