In 2024, Nava Mau dazzled audiences as Teri in the hit limited series Baby Reindeer. The seven episode series that started as a stage play at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was recently adapted for Netflix. Playing a complicated and fearsome love interest to the protagonist Donny Dunn, played by Richard Gadd, Mau's performance as Teri garnered critical acclaim. Mau received an Emmy nomination for supporting actress in a limited series, becoming the first trans woman to receive this honor.

In discussing her role as Teri in Baby Reindeer, Mau commented to MSN on portraying a multifaceted trans character, "It seemed really important to show people that trans women exist in real life and in relationships with real people."

Before her breakout in the role of Teri, Nava Mau was born in Mexico City, before pursuing a career in advocacy. Mau's career began working as a legal aid with survivors of domestic violence. She then transitioned into peer counseling where she began her advocacy work for LGBTQ survivors of violence. Mau's career in entertainment began with Disclosure followed by HBO Max's Generation where she played an aunt to one of the main characters.

Mau has discussed openly her pride in unpacking the complexities of trans characters and aspires to do more work behind the camera. She produced and directed Waking Hour in which she investigated the difficulties of dating as a trans woman. Since then, Mau has expressed her desire to continue working in a directorial manner.

Nava Mau has recently joined the cast of Netflx's You as it goes into season 5, where she'll portray a detective.
