Leo Woodall Is Bridget Jones's Newest Love Interest in 'Bridget Jones 4'
The fourth installment of the beloved film series will follow Bridget Jones as she navigates life as a single mother.
Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be more to Bridget Jones's escapades, you're proven wrong. Now there's talk about the beloved Bridget Jones series getting a fourth film called Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which is set for a 2025 Valentine's Day release.
According to Deadline, Renée Zellweger, who has played the titular role of Bridget Jones, reportedly sealed the deal with Universal Pictures to reprise the character this year, so it's unlikely that shooting for the movie has begun. However, there are a few new and exciting details (and new cast members nonetheless) that may just keep audiences on their toes until the release date.
Below, read on about everything we know so far about Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Cast
As we all hoped and expected, Renée Zellweger will be coming back to play our favorite TV presenter, Bridget Jones. However, before you Colin Firth fans get your hopes up, the actor will not be returning to play Mark Darcy. However, the actor's lack of presence in the film isn't due to scheduling conflicts or a recast—the new film's plot simply doesn't include his character.
If you remember bits and bobs from the last edition of the Bridget Jones series, you may be able to recall Hugh Grant's character, the ultimate Gen X f-boy, Daniel Cleaver, who was reportedly found alive after many believed he died in a plane crash. It's been said that Grant will come back to play Cleaver once again in Mad About the Boy. So for those who are fans of the dashingly handsome yet slightly alcoholic Daniel Cleaver, there's a piece of good news for you.
Emma Thompson played Bridget's OBGYN in the third film. Bridget Jones's Baby is due to make an appearance in the film as well, although it's unclear as to how long or what for. Will Bridget have yet another baby in this film that Thompson's character, Dr. Rawling, will be helping out with?
As for new additions to the cast, Leo Woodall, who recently starred in the Netflix mini-series One Day, and British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor are also due to join the cast. Vogue reports that Woodall may play Bridget Jones's new love interest.
Plot
While there's still a lot left unknown, the film will reportedly follow the plot of Helen Fielding's book the movie will be named after, Mad About the Boy. In the upcoming film, it's said that Mark Darcy has passed away after being killed by a landmine explosion in Sudan, and Bridget Jones is left to raise her two children alone, which according to Hollywood, is never ideal in your 50s. Vogue hypothesizes that Leo Woodall may be playing a hot teacher who teaches at Bridget's kids' school. This may lead our lovable main character to another happily ever after. At the moment, it's unclear how Thompson's Dr. Rawling and Grant's Daniel Cleaver will come into play in the plot and Ejiofor's character is up for question too.
