Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jane Campion's new film The Power of the Dog, based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage, is a Western psychological drama that is all over the 2022 Oscar nominees. While the film has taken over 2022 award shows, many people are unfamiliar with the project despite its A-list director and list of performers.
Released this past November on Netflix, the film boasts a star-studded cast with the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Clemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Kirsten Dunst, each of whom is nominated for Best Actor, Best Actor, and Actress in a Supporting Role, respectively.
Set in Montana in the 1920s, The Power of the Dog is a drama that follows the heart-wrenching stories of a humble rancher family with intense family dynamics. The Power of the Dog has already been the recipient of many accolades since its initial showing at last year's Venice Film Festival, including three Golden Globe Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Smit-McPhee's performance.
While the film has accumulated 12 total Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.
