Everything We Know About 'Heartstopper' Season 3
The coming-to-age queer rom-com has already been renewed for Season 3.
Our hearts just can't get enough of the hit Netflix series Heartstopper.
Since the LGBTQ+ rom-com has come into our lives, it has garnered a mass amount of followers, and for good reason. The series is a book adaption that follows two high school boys who find themselves in the friends-to-lovers trope. It's a feel-good queer love story that has captured our hearts for good reason.
Following the recent release of Season 2, speculation is going on around the show, and fans are already asking the important question: Will there be a Season 3? We've got the inside scoop on some key details about the upcoming season, including Sebastian Croft's departure, as we all eagerly anticipate the release date.
Here's everything we know about Heartstopper Season 3.
Was Heartstopper renewed for Season 3?
Yes! In May 2022, it was announced that Hearstopper was renewed for two additional seasons, meaning a Season 3 will be in the works.
"We put so much love into the making of Heartstopper so to reassemble the team for two more seasons is a dream come true,” executive producer Patrick Walters said in a statement per Netflix. “I’m forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people."
Writing has already begun as Netflix recently shared the title of the first episode, "Love."
Cast
We can assume that much of the main cast will be back for a third season. This includes Kit Connor (Nick), Joe Locke (Charlie), Yasmin Finney (Elle), William Gao (Tao), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Jenny Walser (Tori), Cormac Hyde-Corrin (Harry), and Olivia Colman playing Nick’s mom, Sarah.
The actor Sebastian Croft, who plays the main character Ben in the series, has confirmed that he will not be returning for Season 3. In Season 2, Ben told Charlie that he wouldn't be back for the next semester, leaving many fans questioning if his character is leaving for the show for good or if he will still make unexpected appearances. Croft clarified in an interview with Tendum that he and Alice Oseman agreed that Ben's character would not have a redemption arc, confirming that his departure from the show is permanent.
Release Date
Considering that Season 2 was just released, it will be a while until we can expect a release date.
That said, Alice Oseman, the author of Heartstopper and television producer, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the writing for Season 3 is "very much underway" and while the show is "quite a faithful adaptation" to the book series, the show has developed into its own thing — which means we may see more scenes that deviate from the original books.
In more recent news, it was confirmed that production has already begun, meaning we hope Season 3 is released in mid to late 2024.
