The 2023 Golden Globe Awards saw many deserving wins. Everything Everywhere All at Once's Michelle Yeoh took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical, making her the second Asian actress to do so after Awkwafina's 2020 win for The Farewell. While receiving the honor, Yeoh said: "Forty years, not letting go of this," taking time to collect herself as she began her speech. She continued, "As time went by — I turned 60 last year — and I think all of you women understand this as the days, years, numbers get bigger, the opportunities get smaller, as well. Then along came the best gift: Everything, Everywhere All at Once."
Yeoh's co-star Ke Huy Quan also received the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, a deserving title to attain after his long-awaited comeback. In his speech, the actor thanked Steven Spielberg for his first big break in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. "I was raised to never forget where I came from and to always remember who gave me my first opportunity," said Quan. "I am so happy to see Steven Spielberg here tonight – Steven, thank you!"
"For so many years, I was afraid I had nothing more to offer, that no matter what I did, I would never surpass what I achieved as a kid," Quan went on to say. "Thankfully, more than 30 years later, two guys thought of me. They remembered that kid. And they gave me an opportunity to try again."
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's Angela Bassett accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Bassett is also the first actress to achieve a Golden Globe for a Marvel film; she had this to say: "We embarked on this journey together with love. We mourned, we loved, we healed. We were surrounded each and every day by the light and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman."
"We have joy in knowing that with this historic Black Panther series, it is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us. We showed the world what Black unity, leadership and love looks like, behind and in front of the camera. To the Marvel fans, thank you for embracing these characters and showing us so much love."
