Gillian Anderson has a knack for playing strong female figures in history. She won a Golden Globe for her performance as former English Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Netflix's The Crown. In The Great, she plays Joanna Elisabeth of Holstein-Gottorp, the mother of Elle Fanning's Catherine the Great. For her latest role, the British-American actress breaks into the mind of Eleanor Roosevelt in Showtime's The First Lady. But no matter the role, Anderson does extensive research for her characters, from news articles to podcasts. However, in her wide surf across the internet, she found few outlets that "expand [her] understanding of the human condition." To fill that gap, the star launched her new podcast series What Do I Know?!  with Curio which tackles a range of topics from sexual liberation to pioneering women in STEM and more. Hear the L'OFFICIEL Art Spring 2022 cover star talk about how she digs into a character's psyche to inform her award-winning performances.
