Emmy Awards 2020: See All the Nominees
It’s been quite the year to celebrate the gift of television. Even in the midst of a pandemic, the 2020 Emmys will still be premiering live on ABC, and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, although its exact format remains unclear (at this point, it’s difficult to imagine a 7000-person ceremony happening anytime in the near future). With former heavyweights Game of Thrones and Fleabag now out of the running, there is suddenly room this year for previously underrated performances to be recognized. Nominees were just announced today, and unsurprisingly, Netflix swept the field for the most with 160 nominations.
Zendaya, for Euphoria, and Paul Mescal, for Normal People, are first-time nominees, representing the young acting talent to come out of the past year. Snubs include Reese Witherspoon, who was eligible for three different shows (Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, and Little Fires Everywhere) but not nominated for any. The hit TV show Westworld and the cast of FX’s Pose, a series depicting the underground ballroom scene in 1980s New York, were also unfortunately left out this year. Watchmen, Killing Eve, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are some of the TV shows that took the most nods. You can watch the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards at 8 pm EST on Sunday, September 20—for now, here’s a list of the major nominations:
