Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya in Dune Part 2 Trailer

Exciting news for Dune fans: production has officially wrapped up for the second installment, Dune: Part Two. Returned to the helm were director Denis Villeneuve and lead actor Timothée Chalament, amongst others. While the second installment was confirmed all the way back in October 2021, fans have been patiently waiting to learn more. Finally, with the film having completed production, we have some updates. Take a look down below with L'OFFICIEL.

Dune: Part Two is jam-packed with A-list actors and actresses. Of course, Chalamet, who played lead Paul Atreides in the Oscar-nominated film will be reprising his role in the second installment. And good news for Zendaya fans: while Zendaya had a minor role in the first movie, her role is set to be much larger this time around. Villeneuve told Variety, "For Zendaya, I will say Part One was a promise. I know that we saw a glimpse of her in Part One, but in Part Two, she’ll have a prominent part. We will follow Timothée [Chalamet] and Zendaya on their adventures in the desert."

Other notable additions to the cast? Florence Pugh is set to join the cast—after months of rumors circulating—alongside Austin Butler, who starred as Elvis Presley in the 2022 Baz Luhrmann film Elvis, as well as No Time to Die star Léa Seydoux, Swiss actress Souheila Yacoub, and actor Christopher Walken.

In a red-carpet interview with Variety, Butler spoke about his excitement about being a part of the film. “I loved the first film so much,” Butler said. “It was this cinematic masterpiece, so the idea of getting to be a part of that world is just incredibly exciting and Denis is one of my favorite filmmakers and just an amazing human being. He’s so kind and I’m a fan of every one of those actors in the film, so I felt really honored.”

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Pugh also expressed her excitement and how she loved working with the cast. "To do Dune with those specific actors at the front, like Timmy [Chalamet] and Zendaya and Austin [Butler]—they are remarkable people, number one, and unbelievable actors, number two," she said. "They’re stars in their own ways, not in the cliché way of using the word. They’re just—they’re sparkly people. I’m now lucky enough to call them all my friends, which is super exciting."

Pictures and Legendary Entertainment gave fans a quick overview of the plot: "This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee."

The video opens with Chalamet as Paul, who describes to Chani, played by Zendaya, what it might look like if the sand dunes were actually water. Next, we learn from Princess Irulan, played by Pugh, that Arrakis has many secrets. “What if Paul Atreides were still alive?,” she says as clips of new and familiar characters begin to roll.
