Destroyer is the latest film to come out of Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Jennifer's Body, Aeon Flux) and has been everyone's topic of conversation since last month's Telluride Film Festival, where it received rave reviews. This year, the queen of subtly dark psychological thrillers (Kusama) shares the story of Erin Bell, an LAPD detective whose undercover mission in a California gang goes rather wrong—well, wrong enough to have to deal with the repercussions years later when vendetta drives the gang leader back into her life. As per, Kusama assembled a killer (no pun intended) cast to tell this tale including Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany and none other than Nicole Kidman. True, the Academy Award-winning chameleon is no stranger to transformative roles but, this time, Nicole Kidman is nigh unrecognizable as the hardened LAPD detective. Could this be Kidman's best performance to date? It certainly is a significant one for the actress: "I grew up on these kinds of films. I watched Al Pacino play these roles. I watched all of the men in the '70s get the chance to do it," Kidman told Entertainment Weekly. Based on all the Oscar chatter, sounds like it's once again time for Kidman to shine.

'Destroyer' arrives in theaters December 25, 2018.
