Claire Foy Returns to the Life of Scandalous Aristocrats in New BBC Series
After taking her turn as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, Foy returns to the royal scene in A Very British Scandal.
Claire Foy makes her triumphant return to the royal family drama as her new role as Margaret, Duchess Argyll, in the second season of A Very British Scandal.
The story revolves around the Duchess' two marriages (gasp!) and the dark spot it left on the aristocracy. In this season, we focus on the second divorce, which turned into an all-out paparazzi-hounding, scandalizing, global media frenzy.
During the separation proceedings, the 11th Duke of Argyll, Ian Douglas Campbell, releases a list of 88 men with whom Margaret slept throughout their entire relationship. This list implicated two government ministers and three members of the royal family (second gasp!). In granting the divorce, the judge said that she "was a completely promiscuous woman whose sexual appetite could only be satisfied with several men."
During a 2019 Radio Times interview, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the show's executive producer said, "The Duchess of Argyll was the first woman to be publicly shamed as promiscuous. Let's focus on her second husband's public divorce. He went through her private desk and found a list of all the men she slept with, as well as three Polaroid photos."
The three-episode series is produced by the BBC but will air on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. The casting also features Paul Bettany, Julia Davis, Amanda Drew, Tim Steed, and more.
"I'm very excited to work with Anne, Sarah, and Paul on this extraordinary project and explore through this story how often shame, judgment, and controversy surround a woman's sexuality," Foy said in an official statement.
A Very British Scandal is scheduled for release in 2022.
