The upcoming Desiree Akhavan-directed film is a lesson in the importance of storytelling.

The year is 1993 and—in a flurry of wooden cabins, cuss-words, dirty denim and hand-rolled joints—Cameron, Jane and Adam are in the midst of a fight against the authorities of a camp that they've been unwittingly sent to. But The Miseducation of Cameron Post is no ordinary story of teenage rebellion.

Based on Emily M. Danforth's novel of the same name, Chloë Grace Moretz, Sasha Lane, and Forrest Lane play three campers who have been sent to a conservative Christian camp to undergo gay conversion therapy. What begins as a path to recovery slowly turns into a path of self-discovery for Cameron, Jane, and Adam—three young people who, with every conversion exercise, learn to love themselves, love each other, and to eventually accept that they love who they love.

In an exclusive interview with L'Officiel USA, our cover girl leaves no doubt that there is careful decision-making and reflection behind every film she chooses to be involved in.

“I have always been very committed [to the LGBTQA+ cause] because two of my brothers are gay," Moretz said in our cover interview. "I felt the need to stand up to this intolerance and to speak on their behalf. I fight, in every way possible, to highlight the horrible realities that LGBTQA+ youth have to face.”

The Desiree Akhavan-directed film, for example, tackles a destructive practice often ignored by popular culture, but one that the LGBTQA+ struggles with to this day.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post hits theaters August 3, 2018. Watch the trailer below.
