What to Watch in October 2020
As the weather steadily cools, there is no better time than the present to lay on the couch and snuggle up with some new films and TV shows. October is the perfect month to stream brand-new thrillers and horror movies, as well as older, beloved favorites. Exceptional acting talent is also on its way—Nicole Kidman, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer are some of the famous faces featured in the best new Netflix movies and streaming content to watch this fall.
Malificent
Revisist Angelina Jolie’s iconic villainous portrayal of a vengeful, powerful queen in Malificent. The 2014 blockbuster is coming to Disney Plus on October 1, and is a sure way to get you in the spooky Halloween spirit.
Her
Spike Jonze’s heartbreaking Her returns to Netflix on October 1. The drama, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, focuses on the beautiful, lonely nature of falling in love.
Emily in Paris
Lily Collins stars in the new comedy TV series Emily in Paris. Depicting a young woman transplanted from the Midwest to Paris for a marketing position, it looks to be the kind of fun, frivolous entertainment we need in such dark times. Emily in Paris premieres on Netflix on October 2.
Black Box
In this new sci-fi thriller, a single father undergoes a controversial experiment after losing his wife in a car accident. Black Box arrives on Amazon Prime on October 6.
Cats
If you really want to terrify yourself this Halloween season, try Cats on HBO Plus. Coming October 10, you can enjoy seeing Taylor Swift, James Corden, and Jason Derulo perform musical numbers masked in questionable CGI effects. If it doesn't frighten you, it's at the very least amusing.
Evil Eye
This new horror about the failings of a new relationship comes to Amazon Prime on October 13. Produced by Priyanka Chopra, Evil Eye looks like it will make you even more superstitious this fall.
Unsolved Mysteries
A new season of Unsolved Mysteries is coming to Netflix on October 19. A revival of the older iconic documentary series, now there are brand new investigations to make you lose sleep at night.
Rebecca
Premiering October 21 is Rebecca, a mystery thriller about a young newlywed haunted by her husband’s first wife. Based on the 1938 literary classic, the film stars Lily James and Armie Hammer.
Emma
If you missed Emma back in February when it hits theaters, now you have your chance: the romance is coming back to HBO Plus on October 23. The movie stars indie darling Anya Taylor-Joy (famous for Killing Eve), and is based on Jane Austen’s beloved novel of the same name.
The Undoing
The Undoing is the latest mini-series coming to HBO Plus. Premiering October 25, the show stars Nicole Kidman as a successful therapist who discovers that her husband may be keeping some disastrous, life-altering secrets. The thriller is based on the bestselling novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz.
