The filmmaker is set to work on DC Comics's The New Gods.

A&nbsp;Wrinkle in Time&nbsp;Ava DuVernay&nbsp;director is on her way to break more records,&nbsp;as the first African-American woman to direct a movie with more than a $100-million budget, and now diving into a&nbsp;superhero <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/ava-duvernay-direct-dcs-new-gods-1094878">movie</a> with Warner Bros. and DC Comics. She&#39;s&nbsp;the second woman (and the first African-American woman) to direct a major superhero movie after Patty Jenkins with Wonder Woman. This morning, DuVernay took to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BgYlEjcAid2/?hl=en&amp;taken-by=ava">social media</a>&nbsp;to confirm her involvement with&nbsp;The New Gods.

The DC comic book series was&nbsp;written and drawn&nbsp;by comic legenderary artist, Jack Kirby, who also co-created Captain America and X-Men series (before he left Marvel for DC).&nbsp;The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/ava-duvernay-direct-dcs-new-gods-1094878">plot</a> follows an alien war&nbsp;between two planets as they arrive on Earth.&nbsp;Who says women can&#39;t direct a high-action packed movie? We&#39;d like to see more in the future, please.&nbsp;
