Blade Runner 2049 follows the 1982 science-fiction film&nbsp;Blade Runner. In the 2017 adaptation, de Armas plays a futuristic hologram named Joi. The movie tells the story of a dysfunctional family fighting for their late father's fortune, Harlan Thrombey. The actress played Marta Cabrera, Thrombey's registered nurse. In the end, de Armas' character is the one who secretly inherited the fortune.

Deep Water follows the story of a couple with a deeply troubled marriage. In this star-studded film, de Armas portrays Dani Miranda, a CIA agent working alongside Court Gentry, played by Ryan Gosling.
