In its 81st year, the 2024 Venice Film Festival returns in a post-SAG strike era even bigger and better than before. This year, the festival has a lineup of the century, with films from the likes of Pedro Almodóvar (Strange Way of Life) and Todd Phillips (Joker). Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will also make its premiere with cast members Wynona Rider and Micheal Keaton returning. The Tim Burton-directed movie will star Jenna Ortega and occur thirty six years after the events of the original cult classic film.

In a glamorous return to the red carpet this year, we can expect to see Tilda Swinton (Fantasmas) and Julianne Moore (May December), who star in Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door. The Spanish director's long-form English-language debut will investigate the intricacies of a mother-daughter relationship. Angelina Jolie is also sure to shine on the carpet; the Eternals actress will star in Pablo Larrain's newest biopic, Maria, which will tell the story of opera singer Maria Callas.

Additionally, several exciting series are set to premiere at the festival, including Alfonso Cuarón’s newest adventure starring Cate Blanchett, Disclaimer, from Apple TV+ , Joe Wright’s M: Son of the Century, and Oscar winner Thomas Vinterberg’s Families Like Ours
