The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the 2021 Golden Globe Awards nominations today, with special guests celebrities joining the broadcast to read off the names via Zoom, an apropos culmination to the end of the 2020 film calendar. Netflix pulled through with 42 total nominations, including four of the 10 Best Televisions Series nominations between the drama and comedy/musical categories. Emily in Paris scooped up two nods, including one for Lily Collin's lead performance. The streaming giant's big fall drama series, The Crown, brought in six spots, while The Queen's Gambit and its star Anya Taylor-Joy (who also grabbed a nod for her role in Emma) each earned a nomination as well.

In the category for Best Director of a Motion Picture, Emerald Fennell, Regina King, and Chloé Zhao's simultaneous nominations make this the most women to ever be nominated for this award at one time. Nomadland director Zhao is the first Asian woman to be nominated for a directing Golden Globe. King, who is up for her directorial debut film One Night in Miami, is also only the second Black woman to ever be nominated and, if she were to win, would be the first to do so.

The late actor Chadwick Boseman also received a Best Actor in a Motion Picture nomination in the drama category for his role as Levee Green in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Boseman passed in August of last year after four years of privately battling colon cancer. The film, which was released four months after his death, was dedicated to his memory.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on February 28 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
