Michael Halpern Is the Designer Everyone Is Talking About
The "Central Saint Martins" fairy has struck again. His new little genius? The American Michael Halpern, barely thirty years old, already passed by the Versace house after his master's degree, and who, with an excellent first London show, is already the talk of the industry. Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue, Amal Clooney or Marion Cotillard never leave their very short (or very long) sequined dresses, and Adwoa Aboah, named Model of the Year at last night's Fashion Awards, walked the red carpet of the Royal Albert Hall in one of his party dresses. Also that evening, the young designer received (from the hands of Pamela Anderson) the award of the British Emerging Talent Womenswear, succeeding another UFO in the London sphere: Molly Goddard. These two are paired with their nocturnal hedonism (inherited, for Halpern, from Studio 54 parents) and their contagious joie de vivre, which is good for making fashion smile, a genre that is often thought to be definitively dedicated to austerity. Time to pull out your sequined numbers: the disco is back.
