Wanda Miletti Ferragamo, Ferragamo Family Matriarch, Dies at 96
Wanda Miletti Ferragamo passed away earlier today at the age of 96, WWD reports. The matriarch of the Ferragamo family is most largely known as the wife of Salvatore Ferragamo, founder of the eponymous Florentine footwear giant, who brought an artisanal family craft to a global powerplayer and hallmark of Italian luxury.
Miletti Ferragamo had taken the reigns of the brand following the death of her husband in 1960. Overseeing operations for the brand, she is largely credited with the immense growth of the quality-focused Italian heritage line that happened under her stewardship.
The brand is known for innovations such as the modern platform shoe, cage heels, and wedges. The brand’s fashion group is under the helm of Ferruccio Ferragamo, son of Salvatore and Wanda.
