Who would have thought that Uggs would fully come back into fashion in 2021? Perhaps the shoe's return stemmed from the collective desire to for both comfort and nostalgia, exemplified in the loungewear sets and early 2000s-inspired styles that were ubiquitous in 2020. We couldn't help but notice the sheepskin boot also make its way back onto our Instagram feeds, being worn by models-off-duty and fashion insiders.

Since their introduction in the 1970s, Uggs were usually worn for practicality over style. Originally created for Australian surfers to keep their feet warm post-surf, worldwide brand recognition began to form during the 1994 Winter Olympics after many members of the U.S. team wore the shoes. That same year, Pamela Anderson was published wearing Uggs with her famous red swimsuit.

Not long after, celebrities started wearing the sheepskin boots, pairing them with everything from Juicy Couture tracksuits at the airport to strapless dresses on the red carpet. Paparazzi photos showed everyone from Paris Hilton to Kate Moss wearing Uggs, and the boot quickly became a status symbol of young Hollywood and the teens that imitated them. Now, the brand is making a comeback among the fashion set, even if it's just out of necessity.
