21 Fashion Trends from the Spring/Summer 2021 Runway
These are the standout trends inspiring our spring and summer wardrobes.
Out of the world's four most popular Spring/Summer 2021 fashion weeks, only New York and London Fashion Weeks took place entirely digitally with impressive performances. Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks included several in-person shows, albeit with a limited number of participants and strict social distance measures. The world's new habit of working from home influences the inspiration for outfits. Comfort is key, making loose-fitting trousers, bralettes, knitting, and more the new trends of the season.
Although the pandemic continues, the joy of a new spring and the desire to return to normal has brought bright colors, especially bubblegum pink, to the forefront of this year's style. Outstanding multicolored motifs from the tropics, the sparkling disco style of the 1970s, and the fringe costumes of the 2000s are just a few of the many exciting trends this season.
Wide Leg Pants
These oversized pants may not be as flattering as the skin-hugging style of previous years, but they will be the main trend of this year's spring and summer fashion. Wide leg pants are comfortable, of course, and can be combined with bralettes, lace blouses, or crop tops to show off your femininity, or wide T-shirts, blazers, and sneakers for a strong, sporty look. Either way, the elegance they put on fashion girls' generous and confident strides is undeniable.
Flare Jeans
In addition to casual pants, cargo pants, culottes, and denim jeans will also be enlarged this year. Temporarily fold your skinny and mom jeans away, because baggy denim is the trend of the year. Combine them with large or loose t-shirts and you've got a stylish outfit for this summer.
Bralettes and Corsets
Nothing is more "summer" in spirit than dynamic crop tops. This summer, fashion houses like Hermès, Dior, Givenchy, and Versace bring new freedom when breaking with bralette and corset. From plain to colorful, simple to complex, there are all kinds of different styles for you this summer. And of course, they also bring positive energy to your street-style ensembles.
Mesh Material and Texture
From the revamped Hermès' braided net aprons to the fishnets tights that bring life to Burberry's outfit, it's clear that mesh is making a comeback. This cagey look won't crowd your outfit, but on the contrary, it will bring many unique inspirations and highlights for your summer.
Sheer
Lightweight, sheer materials were actively promoted by fashion houses for Spring/Summer 2021. After becoming too familiar with homewear, perhaps people will be more respondent to wearing less clunky fabrics on the street. Not as revealing as in past seasons, this year, diaphanous garments are more subtle thanks to the tilted sun-streak motifs of Fendi or the maxi dresses that resembles tights from Dior.
Knits and Crochet
A new material that owns Spring/Summer 2021 is knit, with the outstanding advantage of bringing a cool look to the wearer, while easily coordinating with many activities in this hot summer. With Bottega Veneta's opening collection, knitted outfits promise to make the summer even more enjoyable. Other brands like Thebe Magugu, Rick Owens, and Sportmax also jumped on the fabric to showcase their individual aesthetics.
Sparkles and Sequins
For those who love sparkles, this summer is your stage. With the iridescent outfits of Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant, or Balmain, expect a summer drench in vitality. The sparkling sequin style also adds has a sense of the Disco period that's been dominating fashion houses like Celine, Chanel, Loewe, and Saint Laurent.
Abundant Straps
Fashion houses proved this season that straps wrapped around the waist, tied around the chest, or floating under the skirt bring a dose of charm to an outfit. Adding to the summer spirit, they make it look as though you are planning to take it all apart and jump into a cool pool.
Blazers and Trenchcoats
Blazers and trench coats have become popular items in the fashion world. However, this spring, brands have brought a completely different look to them. Starting with Balmain's pointed shoulder blazer, Alexander McQueen's short vest, Givenchy's fancy fleece jacket, or the unbuttoned trench coats of Louis Vuitton and Prada, these classic designs promise to bring a summer of fresh inspiration for fashion lovers.
Cutouts
Cutouts are the preferred look of the warmer months, especially when people have a desire to express themselves after a long time of restraint. Is there anything more subtle than a slight cut across the hips or chest in your dresses or skirts for the summer? Fendi and Hermès offered elegant dresses, while Kenzo presented a generous summer just enough in the "social distance" range. Gabriela Hearst and Zimmermann also showcased youthful dresses ready to shine in the summer sun.
Backless
Bolder than exposed cutouts is an open back, charmingly shown in the daylight. That's what was inspired by the designs of Hermès, Givenchy, and Victoria Beckham. They proved that being elegant does not mean less glamorous, and comfort is not the same as being boring or boring.
Second Skin
Besides comfort, remember that the most important thing to our health is our protection. That's probably the reason why Prada, Kenzo, Miu Miu, and Sportmax took bodywear as the main inspiration for their Spring/Summer 2021 collections. In addition to the superelastic material that helps the wearer feel comfortable and confident, there are also colorful and patterned styles to suit the spring street scene.
Monochrome
Several designers have simultaneously brought neutral white and monochrome styles back to the spring color palette, such as the black and white patterns of Chanel or gold styles of Hermès. Shades of sunny yellow and brown were big for Saint Laurent and Michael Kors, as were the neutral pastel colors for Jil Sander. They're not flashy, but still enough to fill your summer with sophisticated cuts.
Vibrant Colors
Contrary to the monochrome colors are the vibrant tones that brands were more than ready to bust out this summer. The joy of dressing is what fashion is all about—sparking new vitality and excitement for warm weather days.
Bubblegum Pink
Perhaps people's need for sweetness more than ever right now is why designers have filled their runway shows with candy pink outfits—that, and Gen-Z's obsession with all things Y2K. From shirts and pants to chic bikinis, pink is the color you need to brighten your closet this season.
Tropical Motifs
Dispel the cold and gloomy atmosphere of the last days of cold with a collection of vibrant tropical fashion items. In particular, Burberry's ocean-inspired collection will quickly fill the vitamin "sea" quota of your summer days.
Flare Dresses
The key to a good flare dress is its twirling ability. You want to be able to spin around feeling weightless and the summer air rises beneath you. The style perfectly fulfills your need for an easy and breezy look, while staying chic both at home and on the street.
New Office Fashion
Let's be honest: how many meetings on Zoom have you attended in a chic blouse with pajama bottoms below? It's okay, you are not alone. As a result of this growing phenomenon, fashion houses are introducing more comfortable office outfits, like printed t-shirts with cozy pants or then, but professional blazers. The new era of office fashion has officially begun.
Ultra-Mini Skirts
Mini and ultra-mini skirt styles are back, bringing a fresh and energetic atmosphere to your closet. While popping up all over the Spring/Summer 2021 runways, designers often paired the style with a skinny belt to tie together the whole look.
Sporty
You love sports fashion, but do not want to walk down the street like you just left the gym? Don't worry—you can now confidently wear your sportswear thanks to the latest creations from Versace, Celine, and Miu Miu. Cycling shorts, sports swimsuits, and hoodies will no longer be for practice purposes only.
Puffy Sleeves
The puffy arms are back and this season, they couldn't be more adorable thanks to designs from Alexander McQueen, Loewe, and more. The bulging style is needed to increase our "resistance" during the upcoming peak heat season, as well as increase spatial awareness.
