According to Gen Z, Skinny Jeans are Over

It seems the reign of skinny jeans has finally come to an end. While straight, flared, and wide-leg silhouettes have been eclipsing skinnier styles on the legs of runway models and street style stars for years now, teens on TikTok have driven the final nail in the trend's proverbial coffin.

The dominating denim shape for nearly a decade, skinny jeans were impossible to ignore. But in an era where comfort has become more essential than ever and relaxed styles have slowly but surely gained more prominence, it was only a matter of time before the next generation dictated a shift from restrictive, tight denim to baggier silhouettes.

This isn't the first time Gen Z and Millennials have clashed regarding fashion trends—remember the yoga pant vs. flared legging debate? However, if you've been paying attention, the condemnation of skinny jeans shouldn't come as a shock. From the popular boyfriend and mom jean trends to Gen Z's fixation with aughts-inspired fashion, it's no surprise that the skinny jean has become another relic of the 2010s. Fingers crossed that low-rise pants don't also make a comeback anytime soon.

Here is some inspiration on how to rock the new decade's denim shape.
