Jean Paul Gaultier Announces New Collaboration with Shayne Oliver
The Hood By Air co-founder's ready-to-wear capsule for the fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier will be timed to coincide with the Met Gala in New York.
Shayne Oliver is the next guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier, known for its collaborations with independent brands. In 2022, the brand's ready-to-wear division turned to Y/Project for a specially designed capsule, with Glenn Martens revisiting some of the brand's classics such as tromp l'oeil on denim, blazers and miniskirts. The next step was KNWLS, who took their signature stretch knit and covered it in the legendary tattoo print. Now, JPG has just revealed that American designer Shayne Oliver is busy launching his next capsule collection for Jean Paul Gaultier, which will be presented on May 6th during the night of the Met Gala.
The designer is said to have taken inspiration from Gaultier's status as an 'enfant terrible' of 1990s French fashion, creating a capsule collection that combines contemporary interpretation and couture. “I didn't want the collection to be a swag version of a couture collection,” Oliver told BOF in an interview. “It seemed more natural to revisit the pieces that I find important in the modern wardrobe and amplify them.” Oliver's critique of the modern wardrobe will include about 50 items featuring fanny packs, straps, wide-leg denim and logos from fictional labels like GLTR Sportswear.
