Prada Goes Fur-Free
It looks like the domino effect of fashion's fur-free movement is still in place, because it has just earned itself a new member in fashion powerhouse, Prada. In collaboration with the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), which comprises 50 animal protection organizations in over 40 countries, the Prada Group has announced that it will no longer use animal fur in its future products.
The new policy applies to all of the brands under the Prada Group, including Italian fashion labels Prada and Miu Miu. It will be in effect starting from the brands' Spring/Summer 2020 Women's collections while remaining fur products will be sold until quantities are exhausted. Additionally, both brands will continue to use leather in future collections.
In a statement, Miuccia Prada shared, "Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products."
In the past year, several other brands have gone fur-free to meet that same demand, such as Gucci, Versace, and Burberry. Other brands like Chanel chose to abandon the use of exotic skins instead. Having Prada, one of fashion's biggest names, join them is certainly a big bonus to the sustainability movement, and will hopefully cause a ripple effect on a global scale.
