Onitsuka Tiger's Andrea Pompilio is Feeling Nostalgic in Latest Collection
Andrea Pompilio's Fall/Winter 2022 collection for Onitsuka Tiger is a celebration of the color black.
During the 1980s, the anti-fashion movements revolutionized dress codes, going directly against the current trends of the time. It is in these movements that Andrea Pompilio, Creative Director of Onitsuka Tiger, found inspiration for his Fall/Winter 2022 collection. The collection is a forward, fierce interpretation of contemporary styles designed in reference to the fashion of the 1980s.
With "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell in the background, voluminous, layered black dresses referencing those worn by subcultures of the 1980s floated down the runway. The was also clear inspiration from female bands of the time—the clear influence of punk, ninja-inspired aesthetics, and monochromatic looks which all celebrate the power of the color black were clear in every look.
The latest collection is an absolute radical celebration of the color black and is perfectly complemented by the brand's active, sporty soul.
Oversized t-shirts, kaftans, outerwear, and nylon kimonos were all essential pieces in the collection. The silhouette seen throughout was layered—each look was made of several overlapping garments which seemed equal parts fashionable and practical. Cotton dresses with drawstrings at the waist, two-tone sweaters, vests with utility pockets, and nylon and leather platform shoes created a look that is truly and uniquely Pompilio's. A nostalgic, celebratory, and above all a cultural homage, Onitsuka Tiger's latest collection is one that will relate to past, current, and future generations.
