Kylie Mirrors Sister Kendall’s Met Gala Look a Decade Later
Kylie Jenner may have just copied her sister's infamous 2014 Met Gala look.
At the 2024 Met Gala, Kylie Jenner took to the steps wearing a beautiful custom champaign gown by Oscar de la Renta. The gown is meant to emulate the look of a garden statue as a nod to this year's theme, "The Garden of Time." While we admire the sheer beauty of this dress, we can't help but notice its similarity to a gown her older sister, Kendall Jenner, wore a decade prior.
The Jenner sisters have had their twinning moments, with a good example being their similarly feathery 2019 Met Gala looks for the theme "Camp: Notes on Fashion." However, we're not too sure if this is deliberate, especially considering Kendall's distaste for her 2014 Met Gala look, a satin champaign mermaid gown from Topshop.
For context, at the 2014 Met Gala that paid homage to the designer Charles James, Kendall wore a look from Topshop, and while it's hard to see the model caught dead in anything but couture for a red carpet, back then she was new and green to the fashion scene, with 2014 being the first Met Gala she attended. With that knowledge, it's not a surprise Kendall wore a look with the British fashion house; after all, everyone has to start somewhere. However, when Vogue filmed her Met Gala prep in 2018, the model looked back on the look dismissively, saying, "I went with Topshop... It was cute. It was five years ago.” The comment section was then quick to call out Jenner's attitude towards the prior Topshop look, noting that attending such an event is a privilege to begin with.
Long story short, the look isn't memorable to Kendall and did not bring her great press years later due to the video she filmed with Vogue; nevertheless, the Topshop dress represents baby Kendall Jenner's first Met look, and it's quite endearing that after 10 years, Kylie Jenner took after her older sister's very first Met Gala look.
