Lucien Laviscount Finds His Essence Through Kilian Paris
Lucien Laviscount sat down with L'OFFICIEL to talk about Kilian Paris' Old Fashioned fragrance, Parisian memories, and future film projects.
Though he may hail from the U.K., actor Lucien Laviscount has made a name for himself by starring in one of TV's most (in)famous Paris-based shows, Emily in Paris, as Emily's on-again-off-again boyfriend Alfie. The show was recently renewed for a fifth season, which means Laviscount will be spending even more time in Paris—not that that's a problem for him. "It can be hard to feel lonely in a big city, but Paris has never made me feel that way," he raved about the city.
Since Laviscount is officially in Paris to stay, it makes sense that he would partner with one of the city's favorite luxury perfume houses, Kilian Paris, as an ambassador. Below, L'OFFICIEL talks to Laviscount about Kilian Paris' new Old Fashioned fragrance, his favorite Parisian memories, and future film projects.
L’OFFICIEL: What is your first olfactory memory?
Lucien Laviscount: Definitely the smell of my father. I remember he smelled of aftershave when he put me to bed at night.
LO: And what was your first memory with Kilian Paris?
LL: It was when Harry Styles won Artist of the Year at the Brit Awards. Everyone encouraged me to go to a certain party, which was hosted by Kilian Paris. I remember perfumes were being presented, and the scents were incredible!
LO: What does the name Kilian Paris mean to you?
LL: Luxury, timelessness, and elegance. After knowing Kilian Hennessy, the founder of the brand, I would add fun, modern, and unique.
LO: You are the new face of Old Fashioned perfume. Can you tell us more about this fragrance?
LL: The scent encapsulates a certain timeless elegance. It's a part of eternity now within our reach and has become a part of my daily life and, therefore, is a part of me.
LO: How does the scent resemble you?
LL: It's more like what I would like to become. It's an aspiration to fully realize my potential and to become the best version of myself.
LO: What is your favorite fragrance of all?
LL: Old Fashioned, obviously! Otherwise, the smell of freshly cut grass, which reminds me of the countryside, my home, where I grew up.
LO: Kilian Paris is a Parisian Haute Parfumerie House. What do you like most about Paris?
LL: It’s so hard to choose! I’ll start with the architecture, then the food, and finally the energy of this city. It can be hard to feel lonely in a big city, but Paris has never made me feel that way. You can get lost and find yourself again, surprisingly. I also love the balance that the locals find between their personal and professional lives, the café culture on every street corner, and all these little things in the daily life of Parisians that are truly unique in the world.
LO: Do you have a favorite place in Paris?
LL: Le Marais! That's where I settled the first time I had to go there for work, and it’s a neighborhood that automatically became dear to my heart. I also love walking along the banks of the Seine, it’s magical.
LO: As an anecdote, we interviewed Ashley Park, who also confessed to us that her favorite place in Paris is Le Marais.
LL: Is that true? When we had to shoot Emily in Paris during the pandemic, we were all staying in Le Marais. It became a bit of a second home. To be honest, I feel more at home in Paris than in London these days. I'm not originally from London, but from a county in England, and I've had a better time in the French capital these days!
LO: What are your upcoming projects?
LL: I just finished shooting a film, People We Meet on Vacation, based on a novel, with an amazing cast, including Tom Blyth, Emily Bader, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, and Lukas Gage, which I loved being a part of. Another one, Copperhead, is coming very soon. And I'm excited to see what the next few years have in store for us in terms of projects!
