Louis Vuitton, Nike, and Sotheby's Announce Charity Auction
Designed by the late Virgil Abloh, these Louis Vuitton x Nike sneakers are up for auction for a more than noble cause.
Louis Vuitton and Sotheby's, the world's leading art and luxury auction house, will hold a charity auction of 200 pairs of sneakers featuring Louis Vuitton special edition cases and Nike Air Force 1s by the late Virgil Abloh. Proceeds will go to the Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund which, in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund, supports black students in the United States, following the designer's wish.
Starting at $2,000, the 200 pairs, available in a variety of sizes, are presented in Louis Vuitton's iconic leather Monogram and Damier patterns. The Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1s by Abloh were first presented in June 2021 during the Men's Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Each pair will be auctioned together with an exclusive orange case also from the runway collection, reinterpreted from the Maison's archives. Prior to his passing in November 2021, the Artistic Director of the Maison's men's lines was directly involved in organizing the auction and the events surrounding it.
The Nike Air Force 1, which is celebrating its 40th year, was designed in 1982 and is one of the most iconic sneakers ever created. Abloh collaborated with Nike fusing classic sneaker codes with Louis Vuitton codes and materials in homage to hip-hop culture. The models were developed by the brand's shoe atelier in Fiesso d'Artico, Italy.
The auction will run from January 26 to February 8, 2022 on Sothebys.com.
