KROST: The Philanthropic Fashion Label
Community-based fashion label Krost is erasing their carbon footprint with the launch of their first sustainable capsule collection, Support Team. The brand has already established a reputation for its commitment to social ethics through various partnerships with non-profit organizations, and this latest range is their first step towards zero waste. Krost’s slogan, “Support Your Friends,” speaks to the fundamental mission of the brand to foster positive energy, and the efforts of the label stem much further than just the clothes themselves.
The brand is partnering with Ziel, an on-demand apparel manufacturing company, to produce each piece as needed. “It’s entirely made to order. This means less energy and fewer resources to make, store, and distribute the apparel. The capsule uses 100% recycled fabrics and a water-free dying process, which avoids excess waste and water pollution,” founder Samuel Krost told us.
Krost’s latest drop features a cotton candy tie-dye design on both a cropped t-shirt and crewneck, as well as black biker shorts featuring the brand's logo. Editorial shots from the campaign brightly convey the range's streetwear aesthetic on a pink Krost basketball court. The set is full of youth and energy, boasting the positive aura that Krost stands for.
With every collection, Krost NY makes a socially conscious effort to raise awareness for current issues. “We partnered with March for Our Lives prior to the launch of our First Semester collection with the goal of bringing increased awareness around gun reform,” Krost explained. Featured in the collection was a “Save Your Friends” t-shirt showcasing a flower with 17 petals: one for each tragic death in the Parkland shooting. All of the proceeds from this $60 shirt went directly to March for Our Lives in a humanitarian effort to push for change as a brand. “I wanted to create a brand that emphasizes its mission, purpose and sense of community building before its product,” Krost told us, and with each of his philanthropic partnerships, he’s done exactly that.
Before the launch of Support Team, the label released Second Semester, a full collection of colorful, youth-inspired pieces. Pastel blues and pinks alternate with fierce black-and-white silhouettes throughout the range of tailored blazers, silk pajama sets, labeled hoodies, and comfortable tracksuits. With the words “Support Your Friends” prevalent throughout the collection, Krost’s goal with this collection was to emphasize the brand’s commitment to community building.
“Second Semester: Kids At Play was inspired by our first friendships made on the playground," said Scott Camaran, Krost's creative director. "We made this collection to celebrate the vibrancy of our youth, innocence and unconditional support for one another.”
Krost is partnering with Naked Retail at New York's 11 Howard, where Support Team and Second Semester will be available for purchase for the month of August. Go and "Support Your Friends"!
