A sweater can have a multitude of purposes. It can be layered, act as a shawl, or even double as a scarf. This preppy chic method of styling a sweater is reminiscent of the characters Charlotte from Sex and the City or even Sandy from Grease. Recently, the viral invite to Jacquemus’s “Les Sculptures” show came with a chic, neatly folded sweater, and the show itself included looks with sweaters draped atop monochromatic ensembles. Jacquemus's promotional video for the show featured Kristin Davis, true to her character Charlotte York, enthusiastically unboxing the invitation containing the grey V-neck sweater. The video then ends with Davis channeling the sweater in a knotted over-the-shoulder fashion.

The restyling and repurposing of sweaters come as no surprise, as the garment has always been a standard part of an everyday wardrobe. It’s taken on the role of a scarf, shoulder covering, and even an off-the-shoulder top. Make no mistake, quality knitwear will look fabulous regardless of how it’s styled. Snug and comfortable sweaters are timeless and a must-have, especially while it’s still winter. However, if you’re in the mood to add change to an outfit using this knotted sweater look, we’ve included an array of runway examples to draw from.
