Katie Holmes is a Master of the Accessible New York Fashion Week Look
The actress and New York Fashion Week-regular speaks to L'OFFICIEL about mixing high and low fashion and what style lessons she's learned from Iris Apfel.
From sitting front row at fashion shows to attending fabulous fêtes, Katie Holmes has mastered navigating New York Fashion Week—and dressing for the part.
"[I like to wear] what's simple and easy," Holmes tells L’OFFICIEL. She’s backdropped by the upper Manhattan skyline as we speak 107 stories high in Central Park Tower for a celebration of fashion icon Iris Apfel’s 100th birthday and new collaboration with H&M.
The Iris Apfel x H&M collection will officially launch at the beginning of 2022, taking cues from the bold sartorial attitude of the style maven. Recognized for her oversized, round glasses and penchant for prints and extreme accessorizing, Apfel has become an inspiration for generations of fashion enthusiasts. Her collaboration with H&M is sure to pop with a selection of dresses, sets, and, of course, accessories.
"This is an homage to her," Holmes shares, referencing her own outfit of the evening: a camel-colored Toga Archives x H&M sweater with glitzy, beaded cuffs(which will launch September 16) paired with Christopher Esber pants, black Manolo Blahnik pumps, and Ulla Johnson chandelier earrings.
"Everything is so chic,” Holmes says of Apfel’s style. "I admire her respect and admiration for brilliant designers and how she puts all these different patterns together."
Holmes has displayed her chic personal style all around fashion week, always dressed for the occasion. Kicking off the week at Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2022 show, the actress wore a sparkling suit by the designer, and the next day attended the launch of Kate Spade’s apple orchard in the Meatpacking district in a smock-waisted blue dress and Mary Janes. She was also spotted in a strappy Christopher Esber dress from her own closet that she paired with simple white Adidas sneakers.
Her ability to mix designer pieces from the runways with accessible labels like H&M creates a dynamic wardrobe, and is one of the reasons why she’s a favorite street style star to watch during NYFW and otherwise.
