Katherine Langford: "Beauty Is Part of My Job"
13 Reasons Why has been increasingly talked about in the press due to its controversial nature. It's also your first major role, right?
It's pretty amazing to have had the chance to start with the role of Hannah. But just because the themes of the series were so intense, I did not immediately realize the scope. I was focused on wanting to do well, to prepare for my "difficult" scenes, I did not immediately understand the social impact that the series was going to have.
And now, a year and a half later, you're one of Hollywood's rising stars and have over 8 million followers on Instagram. How does it feel?
Instagram, I didn't care. I did not want to do this job for the celebrity. It was Selena Gomez, producer of 13 Reasons Why, who convinced me to be accessible on social networks, in order to establish a link with the young people in distress who identified themselves as Hannah. Today, many schools use our series to educate students and their parents about suicide. It's very touching.
