Kate Middleton Pays Tribute to Princess Diana at King Charles's Coronation
The Princess of Wales dons jewelry previously owned by Princess Diana for her coronation day outfit.
At King Charles's coronation, Kate Middleton is giving a subtle nod to the late Princess Diana. The Princess of Wales pays homage to Princess Diana by donning a pair of earrings Diana wore in 1990. The pearl and diamond earrings were a gift to Diana from the then-Prince, now King Charles the night before their wedding in 1981. Per Daily Mail, Diana was spotted wearing the jewelry while attending a banquet for the Japanese Emperor Akihito in 1990 and at a gala at the Palace of Versailles in 1994.
Princess Diana isn't the only late royal Middleton pays homage to. The Princess of Wales also pays tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II as she wears the George VI Festoon Necklace — a gift from King George VI to his daughter, then Princess Elizabeth.
King Charles's coronation has been six months in the making, with the immense event being met with much anticipation. While the royal affair is quite literally a chapter for the history books, guests didn't disappoint in going all out on the fashion front. Middleton has always stood out for her impeccable sense of style, but she amped it up for her coronation day outfit. Underneath her color-blocked royal robe, Middleton opted for a stunning ivory Alexander McQueen dress — one of Middleton's favorite fashion houses. The custom-designed gown includes four embroidered flowers of the home nations — the English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil, and Irish shamrock.
Middleton tops off the look with a shimmering Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen Headpiece, deciding to wear an alternative to a traditional tiara. The delicate silver headpiece includes crystals and intricate threadwork with three-dimensional leaf embroideries.
