Karl Lagerfeld's Best Met Gala Looks of All Time
A look back at the top Karl Lagerfeld designs that were shown during fashion's biggest night.
No one can ever truly predict what the Met Gala theme will be each year, but this year's theme in particular caused a special amount of shockwaves. Last year it was announced that the theme of the 2023 Met Gala is "In Honor of Karl," a commemorative sentiment to celebrate the visionary works and mass impact of the late designer. Of course, the unveiled theme begged the question, what should the attendees wear?
Fortunately, Lagerfeld's extensive fashion career leaves decades of inspiration to pull from. For some, we may have the opportunity to witness celebrities decked in archival Lagerfeld designs. For others, we'll likely see designers reference various Lagerfeld works for their own creations for the evening. The late designer has quite the resume working with labels (including Chloé and his eponymous brand), though he is best known for helming Fendi and Chanel. Having begun his Fendi journey in 1965 and Chanel in 1983, there is certainly no shortage of vintage pieces to pull from.
With that, Lagerfeld has had quite the fashion impact on the Met Gala red carpet through the years. From his Chanel haute couture gown for Kristen Stewart at the 2010 Met Gala to his bright pink Chanel dress for Lily-Rose Depp in 2017, Lagerfeld's muses never failed to make the best-dressed list of the night.
