The '90s slip-on shoe trend is back. This summer celebrities and influencers absolutely adored these backless shoes because of their comfort and ease of use. The sudden return of clogs, particularly the Birkenstock Boston clogs, comes as no surprise, as this is only one of the style's many resurgences since the mid-12th century when it first originated in Europe.

From Kendall Jenner to Iris Law, the It girls love pairing these shoes with their street-style outfits, embracing comfort without compromising style. Yet, unlike most shoes that are known for being comfy, clogs are often colored, heeled, and/or adorned with gold buckles, which make them look uniquely fancy. As we transition into cooler weather, stepping away from sandals and flip-flops, the clog is looking like the transitional shoe of this fall. It is surprisingly warm because of its thick wooden base—a feature that has remained unchanged since its first origins.

Scroll down to see eight ways celebrities and influencers have styled this iconic footwear phenomenon.

Denim Streetstyle

Who knew the evolution of street style would bring along the clog? Perhaps one of the most popular ways to wear it that we have seen in the past year is with denim jeans. Whether it's a heeled clog or not, the clog brings a different energy to the sporty footwear that we usually encounter in street style. As a distinct item of Cottagecore, it almost clashes with the jeans. But perhaps, it is exactly this mismatch, this discrepancy that makes for the ultimate, truly unique outfit.

Socks and A Matching Set

Model Iris Law wears her pink Birkenstock Boston clogs with a casual stripey set. As the weather cools, we predict matching shirt and trouser sets instead of the shorts that Iris wears here. Socks and sandals are a no-go but socks and clogs? It sure looks comfortable and warm so there is no controversy there.

The All-Black Allure

There is nothing more elusive than an all-black outfit. Whether it be a little black dress or black jeans with a matching crop top, wearing all black seems to assert unspoken power. Kendall Jenner wears black leather clogs with a big gold buckle, adding sophistication to a casual outfit. The glimpses of gold in her earrings, belt, bag, and clogs clearly stand out against the black, exuding elegance and refinement.

Comfy Chic

Clogs are meant to be comfortable, especially the Birkenstock Boston Clog that influencers and celebrities are loving. Coming in a myriad of styles and colors, this clog style puts an emphasis on comfort. It can be worn as cozy slippers at home or outside with a casual coffee date outfit. As the temperature drops, the Boston clog will ensure your warmth with a version that comes with color-coordinated shearling lining.

A Pop of Color

If someone were to give clogs their stamp of approval, it would be Bella Hadid. She is unafraid to experiment with her style and only two months ago was she spotted wearing colorful heeled clogs with the usual jeans and a crop top combination. Her checkered clogs have a wool finish, a style that we cannot help but predict will carry into this coming fall season.

Scandinavian Style

The minimalism of Scandinavian style always stays modern. Shape and structure take precedent over color and pattern, curating sophisticated looks that at first glance may seem entirely basic. Amalie Bladt wears her buckled Birkenstocks with green linen pants and a white tank top, embodying the essence of being comfortably stylish.

Business Casual

Since its popularity surge in 2020, the oversized blazer has not lost any of its initial allure, perhaps only gaining further traction. As a versatile and effortlessly chic outfit, sporting an oversized blazer with any outfit can curate the ideal business casual effect: wear it to work and then out for drinks. Elsa Hosk, the supermodel and former Victoria's Secret Angel, wears heeled Dior clogs with her lightweight brown blazer. These blue clogs are a stand-out choice of shoe that elevates her business casual look and ensures comfort at any event.

Monochrome

French fashion influencer Camille Charrière styles her white Birkenstocks with a simple white baby tee, grey trousers, and a matching belt to her Balenciaga Neo bag—no extra fluff, just monochrome simplicity. There is practically no way to go wrong when staying to a basic black-and-white color scheme.
