'Gossip Girl' Star Evan Mock Promotes Individuality in Ugg's 'Feel You' Campaign
Actor/skateboarder Evan Mock tells L'OFFICIEL about the brand's new "Feel You" campaign.
A celebration of individuality and style was prompted by Ugg with their new "Feel You" campaign for their Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Paying tribute to its iconic Classic Boot, the brand brings together thirty eclectic personalities to bring this new chapter to life. Professional skater, model, photographer, designer, artist, and actor, Evan Mock is as multidisciplinary as he is talented, making him the ideal ally for Ugg. An indomitable spirit and visionary determination have led Mock to accomplish every one of his goals thus far. Known as one of the best skaters in the world, recognized as a cultural pioneer and star of the new version of the acclaimed Gossip Girl series, the Hawaiian native is taking the world by the reins, always staying true to himself. In direct conversation, Mock tells L'OFFICIEL more about this collaboration.
L'OFFICIEL: Tell me a little about yourself. How would you define individuality?
Evan Mock: For me, individuality is self-expression, no matter what other people think, having a vision and executing it. That's what it's really about.
LO: How did you start skating and how do you connect through skating?
EM: I started skating when I was young. Every time the waves weren't good we had to find something else to do so we started skating. It was just another way to be outside and make friends. I definitely connect with people through skating. I feel like if you see someone skating on the side of the street that you don't know, you automatically feel somewhat connected because they both share that love of skateboarding. That's something that feels very unique to skating.
LO: The culture of skateboarding has had a great impact on our social context; How has it influenced your different projects?
EM: It has not necessarily been the center of the things I want to work on, but it has been an important part because it is a part of me. It's been a big part of my life for so long that it seems natural to incorporate it into the projects I work on.
LO: How did Ugg's vibe merge with yours?
EM: The environment at Ugg is fun and collaborative. During the shoot, I was able to wear a couple of props, toss some cakes, wear a cute outfit, and have a good time with cool people. They all did their job so well that I couldn't really ask for anything more.
LO: What was the most exciting part of the collaboration with Ugg for the "Feel You" campaign?
EM: The most exciting part of the campaign was being able to shoot it in New York. I love this city and the energy is always great. Every time I get to work on something here it feels special.
LO: What does it mean to you to be part of a campaign like "Feel You?"
EM: It feels good to work with a brand like Ugg that trusts you and gives you room for maneuver not only to add to the project, but to turn it into a more collaborative idea between different people. Some companies have their own idea and you can't contribute, but Ugg is really good at trusting us and doing more of a collaborative campaign rather than a traditional corporate campaign.
LO: You are very multidisciplinary; How do you balance each project? How have the collaborations with Ugg been?
EM: The collaborations with Ugg have been a lot of fun and I have made very good friends. I consider being multidisciplinary as having more to contribute. Rather than just being the person who was hired for the skating campaign, we can also make you the person who designed it, photographed it, or came up with the idea; we've done all of that before in one of our first Ugg productions with Dennis Rodman. Having multiple jobs and lifestyles makes creating projects more fun because there are so many more options.
LO: How has your style developed over the years?
EM: My style is really an everyday thing. It is in constant development, but I would not say that there is a specific timeline, everything is simply based on feelings.
LO: What does fashion mean to you? How do you express yourself through it?
EM: It really is based on how I feel. I think if it feels good, you wear it. I don't think about it too much most of the time, it's often just how I feel that morning, and that's how I decide what to wear.
LO: Do you have a song that inspires you and has been on your mind lately?
EM: "Death and Taxes" by Daniel Caesar. It's a really good song that I've been playing a lot lately
