Daniel Lee is Leaving Bottega Veneta
After joining the Kering brand in 2018, Daniel Lee has announced that he is moving on.
After three years of reshaping Bottega Veneta's direction as Creative Director, fashion designer Daniel Lee will exit the brand. In a statement from both Lee and the Maison, both parties revealed described the move as a "joint decision to end their collaboration."
Said Lee, “My time at Bottega Veneta has been an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am forever thankful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thank you to François-Henri Pinault for his support, and for the opportunity to be part of Bottega Veneta’s story.”
Pinault, the Chairman and CEO of Kering, the brand's parent company, thanked Lee for the work he brought to the label during his tenure. “I am very grateful to Daniel for having brought his passion and energy to Bottega Veneta," said Pinault. "His singular vision made the House’s heritage relevant for today and put it back to the center of the fashion scene. I would like to personally thank him for the unique chapter that he has written in the long history of Bottega Veneta."
Bottega Veneta CEO Lee Rongone also wished Lee well, saying, “I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication to the House over the past three years. He provided Bottega Veneta with a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity, while remaining respectful of the brand’s fifty-year heritage. The remarkable growth of the brand over the last three years bears testimony to the success of his creative work.”
The British designer joined the House in 2018 after holding previous roles at Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, and Donna Karan. He also served as the Director of Ready-to-Wear Design at Celine under Phoebe Philo's tutelage. During Lee's time at the helm of Bottega Veneta, he sought to reinvent the brand's ready-to-wear line and highlight its reputation for well-crafted and minimalist, but still unique accessories. His new vision, which was coined "New Bottega," was widely successful. The Pouch bag, which launched in 2019, is the fastest-selling bag in Maison's history.
No successor for the role has been named.
