Stars Gather to Celebrate Chanel's 1932 High Jewelry Collection
Chanel honors its first and only high jewelry collection created by Gabrielle Chanel.
October 20 marked the 90th anniversary of Gabrielle Chanel’s heavenly “Bijoux De Diamants” high jewelry collection, Chanel’s first and only collection of the kind. Chanel Fine Jewelry Creation Studio drew inspiration from “Bijoux De Diamants” to highlight the celestial symbolism of the collection. "I wanted to return to the essence of 1932 and to harmonize the message around three symbols: the comet, the moon, and the sun. Each heavenly body shines with its own light,” said Patrice Leguéreau, the director of Chanel’s Fine Jewelry Collection Studio.
The collection features 77 otherworldly pieces, 13 of which are transformable. The star of the collection was the “Allure Céleste” necklace made of a custom-cut 55.5-karat sapphire, honoring Chanel’s chosen number to represent the moon. Embodying a comet, star, and moon, the separate pieces on the necklace can be detached and transformed into other jewelry pieces. The moon and sun featured on the necklace can be removed and worn as brooches, and the central row of diamonds can become a bracelet.
Chanel hosted a dinner celebrating the collection at The Lot at Fermosa in West Hollywood. The event consisted of performances Yeah Yeah Yeahs and was attended by actors, industry leaders, and creatives such as Phoebe Bridgers, Maggie Rogers, Marion Cotillard, Whitney Peak, Andra Day, Alexandra Shipp, Jurnee Smollet, Greta Lee, Cazzie David, Kaitlyn Dever, and more, all dressed head to toe in Chanel.
