In the mid-1950s, while Grace Kelly was sitting for a royal portrait announcing her marriage to Prince Rainier, a single camera flash immortalized the charming coffee bean leaf necklace delicately suspended around her neck. Now, nearly 70 years later, Cartier has reintroduced its Grain de Café collection for a whole new generation of jewelry lovers.
First debuted in 1938 under the helm of Cartier Creative Director Jeanne Toussaint, Grain de Café went on to become the era-defining jewelry collection of the '50s, with much of its popularity credited to the actress and newly crowned Princess of Monaco.
Similarly to another longtime favorite, the Juste un Clou—Cartier’s iconic design with a nail-inspired silhouette—the quotidian has been cleverly transformed into a cherished treasure. In addition to the scintillating yellow gold and diamond bracelet pictured here, the collection features necklaces, earrings, and a brooch with the coffee bean motif, including a necklace based on the design Kelly wore decades ago.
