Carolina Herrera's Resort 2025 Collection Captures the 'Intensity' of Mexico City
Creative Director Wes Gordon tells L'OFFICIEL about his creative process, working with Mexican artisans, and how the collaboration with Frame came to be.
Carolina Herrera's Resort 2025 collection leans into the magic and "intensity of the sunset found in Mexico City," according to Creative Director Wes Gordon. The collection, shown Thursday night in the Mexican capital, embodies all the signatures Carolina Herrera is known for: the bold colors, impeccable tailoring, and elegant eveningwear. But there was something new across the runway's 64 looks: Each was possessed by Mexico's distinct artful spirit.
"Unlike other seasons, for Resort 2025 we knew the location of our show ahead of time, so I was able to design the collection with this in mind," Gordon tells L'OFFICIEL over email. The show was held at the Museo Anahuacalli, built by Mexican artist Diego Rivera. "The starting point of the collection was the vibrant color palette," including the saturated hues found in Mexico City across its architecture, nature, art. He captures this in collection, evident in the opening gown that mimics the chromatic nature of sunset and in verdant dresses that look like flora personified.
"I was also inspired by the people and rich culture of Mexico," Gordon says, and this is what led him to work with four different woman artisans from across the country who practice traditional crafts. María de los Ángeles Licona San Juan (also known as Maestra Nähñu) and Virginia Verónica Arce Arce worked on embroidery, and Jacqueline España hand-painted ceramics and jewelry. Araceli Nibra Matadamas worked across mediums to put her spin on jewelry, too. Each artist's touch on the Resort 2025 collection adds a sense of depth through the heritage of their imprint and intricate detail.
The collection features a collaboration with Frame, a high-end American label best known for its denim. The cross-pollinated pieces boast Frame's knack for jeans with Carolina Herrera's penchant for vibrancy. Gordon says the idea for the collaboration came "organically in conversation, around the idea of what a Herrera woman might wear when she’s not in eveningwear, or what might she wear with a fabulous Herrera top?" The collaborative collection spans five silhouettes, including the Denim Ball Skirt and Corset Mini Skirt. It's available to shop now at Carolina Herrera, Frame, and luxury retailers. Prices range from $498 to $1,198.
Carolina Herrera's Resort 2025 collection successfully captures an artsy essence, thanks to its artisan-made pieces and clothes channeling this energy. It also leans into joy, across the voluminous frocks, brightly-colored suiting sets, metallic accessories, and sequins on skirts. Keep scrolling to see highlights from the runway.
