Acne Studios Looks to the Old to Inspire the New
Acne Studios's new denim range dropped today, but in a sense, it’s not that new. The collection features pieces that serve as a nod to their original styles but with a modern twist. In addition to new colors and washes, there are also patchwork styles created from upcycled materials—green is good and so are these jeans.
The cult brand launched in 1997 in Sweden but has since become an international behemoth—a staple in every cool kid’s closet. The 1996 and 1997 styles are the focus of the collection with updated washes including pink, soft black, marble blue, and even a vintage patch pattern. Whether it’s a patchy cigarette-style jean or a more relaxed boot-cut, men and women have a plethora of styles to choose from.
The revamped denim jackets serve as a statement piece and come in colors similar to the jeans. The 1998 men’s jacket is hip-length with relaxed shoulders for that effortlessly hip look. Women have two options: the 1999 boxy cut jacket or the 2000 style that is longer with soft shoulders and welt pockets. But wait—there is more! You can pair a new Acne patchwork t-shirt dress with your favorite sneakers, wear one of their new raglan hoodies under a recreated denim jacket or accessorize with a denim bucket cap.
Acne stands for Ambition to Create Novel Expressions and while sporting the new collection it is easy to feel ambitious, confident and creative. Jonny Johansson, Acne’s founder, turned his adoration for film, photography, architecture, and culture into a ready-to-wear brand that is accessible to all fashion fanatics. For instance, their Spring 2019 women’s collection was inspired by the romantic world of dance. The new collection has something for everyone—now, let’s get shopping.
