Naomi Campbell Closes Saint Laurent's Boldly Parisian Show
Saint Laurent's latest show was a spectacular affair. Amidst a sea of moving lights against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, creative director Anthony Vaccarello put on a show of sparkles, suiting, and supermodels that reminded the audience of the magic of Paris Fashion Week just as it was getting started.
Taking inspiration from the Rive Gauche spirit, Vaccarello designed a collection that blurs the line between feminine and masculine tailoring. Blazers pair with tiny shorts, tailored trousers are chopped off at the knee, and suits entirely covered in sequins make a statement over mesh undershirts. Veering away from the brand's typically all black collections, Vaccarello dipped into '70s bohemia with paisley prints and softer silhouettes. Many of the pieces feature a deep neckline that almost grazes the belly button, a detail that seems to be trending considering J.Lo brought back that dress at Versace and Emilia Clarke sported a gown inspired by it to the Emmys. Mesh pieces created a subtle allure, and short shorts turned tailoring into nightlife-ready looks.
Kate Moss, Rami Malek, and Ezra Miller happily took in the SS20 show, while the likes of Kaia Gerber, Binx Walton, and Stella Tennant stomped down the runway. Naomi Campbell made a triumphant return to close the show in a sequin-covered suit. If anyone knows how to give fashion editors a warm welcome to Paris, it's Vaccarello.
