Oscar de la Renta Spring 2019

The brand has undergone a series of reinvigorating changes since Fernando Garcia's arrival and, to ring in the spring season, the designer has added a casual flare to the label's trademark evening gown.

With a legacy built on conventionally glamorous evening ensembles, breaking the mold at Oscar de la Renta is no easy feat: the question of staying both current and classic ultimately defines what's at stake. So, when co-Creative Directors of the brand, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, decided to bring luxury leisure pieces to the house known for storybook ballgowns, the risk paid off.

Printed caftans, patchwork scarf dresses, tassels and fringe took center stage in jewel-tone greens and marigold; cuff-sleeved blazers added a touch of polish to the otherwise getaway-worthy pieces. And while the collection may be a swimsuit away from beach-ready, the team also let ballgowns be ballgowns. Think black tie frocks in sumptuous silks and decadent embroidery, while delicate lace and the occasional feathered skirt drive the point home: while the Oscar de la Renta woman dresses for the ultimate island getaway, she can still find her way from the beach to the ball.
