Off-White Spring 2019
Consider athleisure redefined, thanks to Virgil Abloh's Off-White and Nike.
True to his distaste for the traditional, Abloh (now coming to the end of an exciting first year as men's creative director for Louis Vuitton) used this Spring 2019 collection to both elevate sportswear and reinvigorate feminine staples. Global track & field athletes (including the Team USA's Vashti Cunningham, Belgium's Nafi Thiam, and Colombia's Caterine Ibarguen) swooshed their way down the pitch-like runway alongside Bella, Kaia, and Kendall. In addition to snakeskin suits, performance leotards, and full ballgowns, this was the debut of Off-White's brand new footwear and apparel collaboration with Nike—the latest in an exciting and highly active partnership whose products have found their way into the streets and the sports arenas, alike. Authenticity is and has always been to key to the label, from its designs to its partnerships, and this merging of style and (literal) strength is certainly relevant to our times.
