Max Mara Triumphs in Lisbon With Cruise 2023 Show
Max Mara's Cruise 2023 fashion show was staged in the gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in the Portuguese capital.
Against the backdrop of the enchanting gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Max Mara presents its Cruise 2023 collection. The new creations by creative director Ian Griffiths are inspired by a painting by artist Nikias Skapinakis which depicts the intellectual poet and activist Natália Correia with two other women seated reverently at her feet. Max Mara's goal is to revive the spirit of the Antologia de Poesia Portuguesa Erótica e Satírica author and advocate of sensual femininity and women, as well as her trusted friends within her community of La casa della Correia and the Bar Botequim she founded: Henry Miller, Graham Greene, Eugène Ionesco, and the queen of fado Amália Rodrigues.
The inspiration translates into the collection with relaxed, lustful, and seductive silhouettes: sheath dresses that redesign the body, pleated pieces, daywear sets in knitwear, and Max Mara coats, true icons of the brand that remain omnipresent in the Cruise 2023 collection. Hearts, flowers, and doves are motifs that are taken up in the sophisticated and naïf style of the traditional Lenços de namorados, the cotton handkerchiefs of lovers.
In addition, the collection features collaborations with Portuguese artisans in the form of t-shirts with love poems which, as custom dictates, begin with an accurate prayer so that the message reaches the object of the sender's desire. A message linked to Portugal that celebrates the spirit of Max Mara women.
